Operators sailing inside ECAs will have to use fuel with a sulphur content of no more than 0.10% from January 1, 2015. 

The reduction in the ECA sulphur limit to 0.10%, from 1.00% at present means operators that previously used low sulphur fuel oil (LSFO) to comply will need to use much more expensive low sulphur marine gas oil (LSMGO).
